When you look for GPS devices for the road, you will likely find a few brands and soon become confused about which one to get. This is especially difficult when you are searching for something that offers affordability and portability. The selection offered in your local mall will probably not be extensive, which could induce you to shop online and attempt to find more options. Once you’ve looked, you’ll be surprised at the amount of GPS manufacturers are even available. Navman GPS products are an example of the companies that you don’t see normally as they maintain no shops in the US, but lots of them in the UK and Australia. Still, Navman’s current collection of products looks rather pleasing to the eye. Another great model to consider is the Garmin Nuvi 1200 Portable GPS Navigator.

Navman F15

The Navman F15 appears to be the single Navman device currently available in the US and, predictably, US maps including Puerto Rico are included. While the Navman F15 wouldn’t be considered a widescreen product, the 3.5” touch screen along with its straightforward user interface combine to make it a very user friendly product overall. Plugging in the device will be easier than most other GPS models, which usually require some minor electrical work just for the device to behave in the manner you’d prefer. These two features easily define the F15 as a practical device for beginners to introduce themselves to GPS navigation as a whole.

The problem is, the navigation abilities of the device may disappoint some customers because it isn’t as accurate as several other North American manufactured GPS devices you could find. There may be some times when you start to go around in circles, but there are also many reports of this product being spot-on, so it may be influenced by the area you’re traveling in. Some points of interest might include a few restaurants and gas stations, but the number of POI’s offered with Navman’s software are well short of the swarm of destinations that US-based GPS manufacturers provide. The brief battery life might be an annoyance also, but can be expected owing to the fact that this particular GPS model isn’t that expensive. Setting aside the inadequacies, the Navman GPS remains acceptable due to its straightforward user interface and functions and its ease in calculating the most direct route and locating addresses.

Navman S35

The S35 provides the same 3.5 inch screen as does the F15, and the casing looks quite good looking and it is still appropriately portable. The S35 is made just for use in Austrailia, provided with over 500,000 points of interest within the country and includes the text-to-speech engine which properly enunciates street names employing an Australian accent. This model also comes with a mileage expense reporter will likely prove handy for GPS owners who prefer to manage gasoline expenditures more conveniently. The latest maps of 2008 are also included.

Navman S45

The Navman S45 offers the same kinds of operations and aesthetics as the S35, except that the screen is larger; measuring 4.3 inches. In spite of the widescreen feature, the S45 appears fairly portable. A comparable model is the Garmin Nuvi 1200 GPS Navigation System.

Navman GPS units are restricted in variety, although they all strive to be conveniently portable and trustworthy. They accomplished their objective in maintaining an attractive and portable shape, but they could make some upgrades on the accuracy side.
